'A fast clip'

Barry Fox reports on a new video-data search system, developed
by Israeli military researchers, that in an adapted form will help TV
editors scan very large amounts of footage for the video clips they
need.
The system, available for Silicon Graphics and WindowsNT systems,
allows one to execute searches based on a wide variety of items, eg.
caption content, faces, distinctive clothing marks such as logos,
particular background colours, etc. Further work will offer
audio-searching abilties as well.
Prerecorded or live data is analysed by the system which to construct
an index that consumes a fraction of the space needed for the raw
data. Queries employing logical expressions are then used to search
the index.
