The approx 80 second test sequence is a walkthrough of a village, then back to a nearby river. See after the tables for various observations. Key (all GPU clocks are given as 'Core/Shader/RAM' or 'Core/Boost/RAM'; a single number refers to just the core clock): RX 580 = PowerColor Red Devil RX 580 8GB, default 1190/2000 core/RAM. GTX 780 Ti = EVGA GTX 780 Ti 3GB (Reference cooler), stock @ 980/1046/1750 core/boost/RAM (stabilises under load at around 1125MHz). GTX 1060 = Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB Windforce, stock @ 1557/1772/2002 core/boost/RAM (stabilises under load at around 1924MHz). I'm also not sure how the game update may have affected performance even when trying to use matched settings, so it could be that newer results are stressing the hardware more than was once the case (maybe this is why the 6850K/1080 Ti config beats the 5600X with the same GPU, though the former does win out for other games too). Alas, it is what it is, so as of Jan/2023 I'll proceed with testing using MEDIUM and ULTRA settings, but do bare in mind this potential settings clash (what I'll do when I can is retest one of the existing results using the updated game, see if it's any different). Also, I checked the effect of using ULTRA+ instead of ULTRA, it reduces performance by about 10%, but for little apparent difference in visual quality. The following discussion refers to the use of a 4GHz 2700K and 780 Ti... Increasing resolution does not increase VRAM usage anything like as much as increasing the detail level from MEDIUM to HIGH/ULTRA. However, TW3WH doesn't appear to be that intensive a game and its performance has little variance while playing, so it should be possible to optimise settings to have good performance even on a fairly old GPU.. Indeed, VRAM usage at 1080p MED/MED is less than 1GB. CPU usage was moderate (35%) with 6 to 8 threads active, GPU maxed out, so this doesn't appear to be a CPU intensive game (hence the 4GHz and 5GHz results being basically identical). VRAM usage is as follows (this is peak usage): MED/MED HIGH/ULTRA ---------------------------- 1080p: 890MB 1562MB 1440p: 1350MB 1828MB Thus, assuming the basic performance is good enough, just max out the settings for a GPU with 2GB or more VRAM. Having said that though, Q9550 results do suggest that 4-core CPUs (or older CPUs in general, not sure yet) will hold back newer GPUs, and note that although the Q9550 results may look reasomably consistent, I did notice a lot of stutter during an initial run through at 1080p, as if it was caching the data; once done, all remaining tests ran fine, so I reran the 1080p/MED test (the initial run had single figure lows). Thus, perhaps being able to properly support at least six threads really matters, whether that's via SMT or genuine cores such as an i5 8500 or maybe an old Phenom II 1090T (more tests needed). If I'm wrong though then something like an i5 760 wouldn't show these effects, so we'll see. Mind you, the 2700K with HT off did give consistently worse 0.1% Lows, though the effect is lessened as the resolution/detail increases, perhaps because the burden is moved more to the GPU. Testing the dual-S2011 XEON 2640 system under Win10, performance was generally slightly better but the most useful effect was much improved Lows. Overall I'd say it's definitely worth running this game under Win10 in order to have smoother frame times. Turning NUMA off didn't make much difference at 1440p, but it seems like just maybe it improves things slightly at 1080p.
