RESIDENT EVIL 6, DX9c Benchmark Last Change: 20/Jan/2023, 1518hrs. Whoami: Ian Mapleson http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/sgi.html http://www.sgidepot.co.uk/sgidepot/ Here I present collated results for a range of different systems for the built-in Resident Evil 6 DX9.0c benchmark, testing only with HIGH/FXAA settings. See after the tables for various observations. Key (all GPU clocks are given as 'Core/Shader/RAM' or 'Core/Boost/RAM'; a single number refers to just the core clock): RX 580 = PowerColor Red Devil RX 580 8GB, default 1190/2000 core/RAM. GTX 780 Ti = EVGA GTX 780 Ti 3GB (Reference cooler), stock @ 980/1046/1750 core/boost/RAM (stabilises under load at around 1125MHz). GTX 1060 = Gigabyte GTX 1060 6GB Windforce, stock @ 1557/1772/2002 core/boost/RAM (stabilises under load at around 1924MHz). GTX 1080 = PNY GTX 1080 8GB, stock @ 1607/1734/1251 core/boost/RAM (stabilises under load at around 1860MHz). GTX 1080 Ti = Palit GameRock GTX 1080 Ti 11GB, stock @ 1595/1709/1376 core/boost/RAM (stabilises under load at around 1974MHz). GTX 460 = Original 460 with a 256bit memory interface. GTX 460 V2 = Later 460 with a 192bit memory interface (ironically, these overclock much better). GTX 460/E = EVGA GTX 460 SSC FTW, stock @ 850/1700/1000. RE6 doesn't use much VRAM. Even at 1440p it's less than 1GB. Max frame rates are not included as they're always high but vary enormously, I think because of exactly when one stops the Afterburner logging, and the fps spike between the two test scenes. Using Win10 hurts avg performance a bit for this game (by about 10%), which is probably why, with a 1080 Ti, the 5600X did not beat the 6850K. If the former were also running Win7 then likely its avg fps would be more like240+. Although the minimums and lows for the 2700K at 4GHz vs. 5GHz with a 780 Ti are not that different, at 1080p the clock difference boosts the avg fps quite a lot, whereas at 1440p it doesn't, though the avg rate at 1080p is already so high it really doesn't matter. It'll be interesting to see how different GPUs behave in terms of avg rates vs. mins/lows, and whether lesser CPUs have a greater impact on performance. This test, being DX9, demonstrates how older titles do not run so well on XEON CPUs, ie. old APIs that favour CPUs with fewer cores but running at higher clocks - the legacy of the dominant Intel years. This is why back in those days 2nd-hand XEONs were not that interesting for budget gaming, but today with DX12, Vulkan and newer game engines, old many-core XEONs with lower clocks perform quite well (see the other results for Hitman 2, GTA V, etc.) Testing the dual XEON 2640 system with Win10 hurt avg fps but, unlike some other titles, did not improve the Lows, so in general for DX9 games I'd say just stick with Win7, or indeed use WinXP as that will often be even better than Win7. Turning NUMA off under Win10 improved avg fps a little, but not significantly; under Win7 having NUMA off hurts performance slightly. In general, it seems for an older DX9 title one really needs a high IPC CPU, while lots of cores don't matter. ******************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************* CPU-Zs: i7 2700K @ 5.0: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2334534 XEON E5 2420 v2: http://valid.x86.fr/wd97e9 Q9550 @ 2.83 stock: http://valid.x86.fr/yma3su 2x XEON E5 2640: http://valid.x86.fr/4wp69g i7 870 @ 4308MHz: http://valid.x86.fr/n40mdc Ryzen5 3600 @ 4GHz: http://valid.x86.fr/n9t6wt Ryzen5 5600X @ 4650MHz (PBO 75W): http://valid.x86.fr/wftacb i7 950 @ 4.26 http://valid.x86.fr/lumtze
